Gardener; Gun barrel-setter; Master Builder; Nurseryman After leaving school worked as odd-job man and gardener. Became a barrel- setter until the midle of the War, when his sight failed and he was tol d to work outside. Took up building, largely as a bomb-damage repairer i n the first instance. After the war became a builder, but took on his fir st greenhouse around 1952. Later ran 3 greenhouses and around 80 chickens : initially coal-fired and later oil-fired. Beryl was just old enough t o be able to get most products ready for market - cucumbers, tomatoes, mu shrooms (very difficult as tended to ripen simultaneously).
